How to get to Les Taloches

Tourtoirac is 35 km north-east of Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne. It is 8km south of the market town of Excideuil and 9km west of Hautefort. The A/N89 motorway which runs from Bordeaux to Brive la Gaillarde via Périgueux is 15 km away.

By air

You can get to the Dordogne at any time of the year and from the UK you can now fly direct from a number of regional airports (London Stansted, London Gatwick, London City, East Midlands, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Southampton, Liverpool, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Cork and Dublin)

The nearest airport is Brive-Souillac (Aeroport Brive-Vallee-Dordogne - 45 minutes), followed by Bergerac and Limoges (both about 1 hour 15 minutes away). Bordeaux International Airport is approximately 2 hours away.

By boat

Tourtoirac is about 8 hours drive from Calais (to/from Folkestone/Dover), and 6.5 hours from Caen (to/from Portsmouth) or Le Havre (to/from Portsmouth).

If you are coming from Caen or Le Havre, or if you wish to avoid Paris, head for Rouen on the A16, then the A28, A13 (to Paris), N13, N154 (Dreux, Chartres) then the A10 to Orleans, A71, A20 to Limoges (see local directions below)

From Calais, the A16 is less busy than the A26 and you can join the A1 to Paris either via the A29 from Amiens or, near Paris, via the D104 to Charles de Gaulle airport and join the A1 there. Follow the signs for the A10 Bordeaux/Orléans. At Orléans, take the A71 (follow Toulouse) and then the A20 to Limoges (see local directions below).

By train

There are a number of good rail options, especially since the introduction in 2017 of the new TGV line between Paris and Bordeaux and the Eurostar between the UK and Lille or Paris. The most direct routes are :

  • From Lille to Angoulême (4 hours), which means you don't need to make a connection in Paris between the Gard du Nord and Montparnasse or Austerlitz.
  • From Paris (Gare Montparnasse) to Angoulême (2 hours on the new TGV line).
  • From Paris (Gare Austerlitz) to Limoges (3 hours) or Brive (4 hours).

Timetables can be found at www.oui.sncf.com. A car is essential in this region and can be hired at the main stations.

Travel times to Les Taloches are as follows :

  • from Angoulême - 1 hour 40 minutes,
  • from Limoges - 1 hour 15 minutes
  • and from Brive - 50 minutes.

Local Directions :

  • Via Limoges (50 mins) : From Limoges (A20 exit 36) take the D704 through St Yrieix la Perche. Then follow signs for Périgueux on the D704. At Cherveix-Cubas, turn right for Tourtoirac. In the village turn right onto the D67, cross the river and turn right towards Excideuil. Les Taloches is on the left, about 300 metres up the hill. First entrance to La Châtaigne, second to La Grange.
  • Via Brive (45 mins) : Take the A89 (Bordeaux). Exit at Exit 17 - Sarlat. Turn right onto the N89 towards Périgueux. After about 500 metres, at the roundabout, turn right onto the D704 (Hautefort, St Yrieix-la-Perche). After 15 km, arrive at St Agnan. In the village, turn left onto the D62 (Tourtoirac, Périgueux). After 6km, enter Tourtoirac. In the village, turn right onto the D67, cross the river and turn right towards Excideuil. Les Taloches is on the left, about 300 metres up the hill. First entrance to La Châtaigne, second to La Grange.
  • Via Périgueux (30 mins) : Follow the direction of Limoges (N21) when leaving Périgueux. At Trelissac turn right at the traffic lights onto the D5, cross the river and at the next roundabout turn left onto the D5 (Bassillac and Hautefort airport). Continue on this road via Le Change and Cubjac to Tourtoirac. In the centre of the village, after the bar Relais d'Ans, turn left onto the D67, cross the river and turn right towards Excideuil. Les Taloches is on the left, about 300m from the village
